Several years ago I started ArtMondays as a way of motivating myself to grow my craft after leaving the academic world. The concept was to set aside one day a week to do anything art related, finished or not, big or small, but the key was to set limiters.
Before doing this, art felt boundless and chaotic. The infinite possibilities only paralyzed me. After years in a sterile working environment, creating precise technical work, I found the missing ingredient I needed for ArtMondays to be successful.
It wasn't the work I was helpless to complete, it was the goal. When I gave myself strict limiters, the world felt more tangible. A color palate, a theme, a medium; any of these things can help narrow down the task into something achievable.
